£10 +Del. The students wanted to discuss ways to improve the quality of the courses at Guildford School of Art. The governors refused so a sit-in began which became the longest ever at an educational institution in the UK. Surrey County Council sacked the staff who supported the students and took the students to the High Court. The governors never really listened but, as soon as the sit-in ended, the Minister for Education decreed that all schools, colleges and universities must invite students & staff onto their Advisory Boards. That this is normal today is due to the actions of students and staff at GSA in 1968. These photos were taken, from the inside throughout the sit-in, by John Walmsley, then a student at the Art School.
