#91000 After the sit-in at Guildford School of Art the previous year, a march through London to a rally in Hyde Park. Here, students are sitting alongside Tony Heath, the Surrey County Councillor who supported them throughout. Jack Straw, Vice-President of the National Union of Students (later, Foreign Secretary), presented a petition for a Public Enquiry to the Minister for Education. 28th May 1969. The sit-in was the longest ever at a UK education establishment and led directly to students being on the boards of all establishments today.
